Water Separation

This test method is used to determine the water separability of petroleum products, as specified in DIN 51 589, which may come into contact with steam and hot condensation water and are required to separate from the water quickly. The normal range for this application is less than 30 seconds to a maximum of 1800 seconds. The sample is placed in a cylinder and emulsified by a constant flow of steam that is measured after condensation in a graduated cylinder connected to the sample cylinder. The settling time of the aqueous phase (Method A) or the separation time of both phases (Method B) is then determined.
