Viscosity

This test determines the kinematic viscosities of liquid petroleum products and hydraulic fluids at 40°C and 100°C.  Significant deviation (+ or - 20%) from the viscosity of the fresh oil reference may indicate a build up of oxidation products due to overheating e.g. contamination with fuel, hydraulic fluid, or water, or the top-up with oil of a different grade or degradation of the oil itself, for example. Thus, the accurate determination of viscosity is essential to many product specifications. With the capacity to determine the kinematic viscosity either manually or fully automated, according to international standards like ASTM D445 as well as in-house methods, viscosity can be monitored to prevent lubrication loss and failures.
