Federal Aviation Administration issue AD for repetitive engine oil filter sampling on TPE331 and TSE331 engines

27th June 2018

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have recently issued an Airworthiness Directive AD 2018-13-05 for certain Honeywell International Inc. (Honeywell) TPE331 turboprop and TSE331 turboshaft engines.  This AD requires initial and repetitive engine oil filter sampling on the affected engines and inspections of certain hydraulic torque sensor gear assemblies.

The requirements of the AD specify that samples should be sent to a Honeywell authorized laboratory of which all three Spectro | Jet-Care laboratories are listed as such.  The UK, USA and Swiss laboratories are Honeywell approved independent laboratories listed in SIL P331-97 and are also accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 as per the Schedules of Accreditation below.  Specifically our oil and filter analysis and qualifications are compliant with AD-2018-13-05.

Jet-Care USA
Spectro Oil AG Switzerland

In addition testing is as per our in-house method which is adapted from ASTM D5185, the standard test method for multi-element determination of used and unused lubricating oils and base oils by Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP- AES).  This is approved as per the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Schedule of Accreditation for each laboratory.

ZingSOAP reports will include the statement "Sample analysis in compliance with AD 2018-13-05" for samples submitted in accordance with this directive.
