Q3. We have changed to DEEC's; do we still need to send in Kneepad data (TFE731 engines only)?
It is not mandatory to send trend data using both methods. However at no extra fee Jet-Care will trend both sets of data.  Consider the following advantages:

DEEC:

  • DEEC data is independent and doesn't increase crew workload.
  • Readings are not subject to error.
  • Electronic processing reduces transcription errors.

Kneepad:

  • More immediate - 3 flight frequency.
  • Detects non engine related defects, e.g. will pick up instrument problems.
  • Pilot judgement on engine stability very valuable. Enables data to be collected on every flight not just when the engine meets programmed conditions.
  • Engine fuel flows can be trended. Fuel flows are not recorded on the majority of airframe/DEEC installations.

Both methods:

  • Allow comparison between the two systems to give enhanced analysis

Q4. When should I download and forward my engine trend data files to Jet-Care?
Jet -Care recommends:

  • TFE 731  - Every 25 hours or 10 flights  (or monthly if less)
  • HTF7000 – Every  50 hours  or monthly (whichever is sooner)
  • CF34      - 25 hours or monthly (whichever is sooner)
  • All other engine types  - please contact Jet-Care

Q5. How often should I forward my manually recorded kneepad trend data?
Jet-Care provides a standard 3 flight proforma trend sheet on enrolment or change. Concurrent with safe operation, this should be completed during every flight. The sheet should be forwarded as soon as possible following completion of the third flight or  weekly if three flights have not been achieved - i.e. even if one flight only has been completed.
Blank trend forms are available under Engines.

Q6. I have difficulty taking data due to flights of short duration - will this invalidate my MSP warranty?
Where collection of data could present a flight safety hazard, lack of trend data would not normally invalidate the Honeywell MSP warranty. Such situations are investigated on a case by case basis.

Q7. Why are there fewer flights shown in my report than I sent in to Jet-Care?
Kneepad Data
Essential data may be missing or illegible, or incorrect information may have prevented us from identifying your aircraft.

DEEC Data
The DEEC will only take readings when the engines meet the conditions programmed in to define stabilised cruise. If these conditions are not met, such as during autothrottle use, this may result in no readings being taken over a number of flights.

Q8. What are the 'unsmoothed' values at the bottom of the report?
The main trend is smoothed over rolling average of the last five readings to reduce fluctuations due to unavoidable data collection variations. This means that any sudden change in engine condition will show on the trend as four steps. The last five points are plotted 'unsmoothed' at the bottom of the page as a further aid to identifying recent changes.

Q9. I've been sending in data. Why have I not received a report?
There can be a number of reasons for this:

We have not received an enrolment form.

  • We need a minimum of 20 flights.
  • Incomplete trend forms, records missing essential data cannot be entered on the Jet-Care program.
  • There has been a change of address, ownership or contact number. Please inform us of any update.

Q10. I've been told that the DEEC records many different items of information but my Jet-Care reports only show main engine parameters. What happens to the other information?
The role of Jet-Care is to trend the main engine parameters which show the performance characteristics of the engine. The other information, which is mainly technical or maintenance related, is not used or viewed by Jet-Care but can be made available to Honeywell.

Q11. I fly below 20,000 feet, so do I still need to record my data?
The program is designed to correct for altitude among other flight conditions. In order to give the best information on engine condition, all recorded data should be submitted.

Q12. Why does my report show a string of numbers instead of a line?
If a parameter is higher or lower than average, the value may exceed the boundary on the printed page and hence is shown numerically. The Program Manager, however, is able to view all the data on screen. By using ECHO® to replace paper reports, updates are sent via email and all parameters are viewable on screen.

Q13. I am interested in enrolling, what do I need to do?
Complete the appropriate form.

Q14. I've used my last data recording form. Where can I get a 2, 3 or 4 engine form?
Go to Engines select the appropriate engine type and download/print the Trend Sheet.
The forms contain the fax numbers for sending the forms.
